Howard Merricks, ESQ.
Founding & Senior Lawyer
Mr. Merricks is an honors graduate from the University of Florida and Mississippi College School of Law. Attorney Merricks began his legal career as an insurance defense attorney with the law firm of Smalbein, Johnson, Rosier, Bussey, Rooney, and Ebbets. Currently, Attorney Merricks exclusively represents plaintiffs in the areas of personal injury litigation, automobile accidents, wrongful death, medical malpractice, and nursing home abuse. Over his 30+ years of practice, he has successfully handled thousands of cases, helping clients recover the compensation they deserve.
Brian Metson, ESQ.
Senior Lawyer
Mr. Metson went on to study law at Queens University after graduating from the University of Guelph in 1989 with an honors degree in political studies. Upon obtaining his law degree in 1993, Mr. Metson was called to the bar in 1995.
Over the span of 25 years in his legal career, Mr. Metson has dedicated himself primarily to litigation, specializing in personal injury cases. He has been a committed member of the Ontario Trial Lawyer’s Association for many years and has gained experience in every facet of trial practice, including proceedings before the Court of Appeal.
After spending his initial years in Brampton, Mr. Metson developed and expanded his own firm based in Mississauga. Mr. Metson became part of Merricks Law Group as counsel in 2017 and was appointed as the managing lawyer in 2019. Since then, he has played a pivotal role in advancing the firm’s early expansion within the Greater Toronto Area and remains focused on maintaining the delivery of efficient and prompt legal representation for our clients.
Robert Lamot, ESQ.
Senior Lawyer
After graduating with Honours in History and Political Science at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Robert Lamot continued his education at Carleton University in Ottawa, obtaining a Master of Arts in Legal Studies. Robert went on to attend Queen’s University, Faculty of Law, in Kingston, Ontario, where he received his Bachelor of Laws degree in 2000. Currently, Robert is a member of the Ontario Bar Association and Ontario Trial Lawyers Association.
Robert has dedicated his experience and knowledge to plaintiff personal injury law, representing clients involved in motor vehicle accidents (Tort and AB), slip and fall / trip and fall incidents, occupiers liability claims, long-term disability and critical illness claims.
Kameliya Stancheva
Court & Tribunal Agent
Kameliya Stancheva obtained her Court and Tribunal Agent Diploma at Seneca College, as well as The Osgood Certificate in Negotiation at Osgood Hall Law School of York University. Afterward, she completed her master’s degree in Engineering in 1990 and her master’s degree in Industrial design in 1991. Kameliya has been a licensed paralegal and a member of the Law Society of Ontario since 2009. Additionally, she has been a member of Ontario Trial Lawyers Association since 2010.
With over two decades of expertise as a professional negotiator, Kameliya has participated extensively in diverse case conferences, mediations, and pre-arbitration hearings. Her experience spans proceedings before the Licence Appeal Tribunal, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, and Alternative Dispute Resolution Chambers.
Kameliya brings significant knowledge to cases involving catastrophically injured victims of motor vehicle accidents throughout the Greater Toronto Area and Northwestern Ontario. Her dedication to securing optimal outcomes for her clients drives her to foster productive relationships with insurance adjusters, medical professionals, and defense attorneys across Canada, leveraging her skills to achieve exceptional results.
Harneet Badwal-Sandhu, ESQ.
Associate Lawyer
Harneet earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from York University in 2017 and subsequently completed her Paralegal Education diploma at Humber College in 2018.
She pursued advanced legal studies at the University of Leicester Law School, where she graduated in 2020.
Harneet began her journey with Merricks Law Group in 2019 as a summer student and returned in 2020 as a legal assistant while working through the National Accreditation process. After completing her articles with the firm, she became an associate lawyer upon her call to the Bar in 2023.
Passionate about delivering outstanding legal services, Harneet is dedicated to advocating for her clients with integrity and professionalism.
